2005 Aquatic World Championship Bid
Long Beach CA

Venue Planning and Bid Renderings
Long Beach 2004 Aquatics World Championship Bid called for the planning and design of several temporary venues as well as the complete renovation of the Belmont Plaza Aquatic Center. The championships include all of the major aquatic sports. Swimming and synchronized swimming were planned to take place on the beach with temporary pools and spectacular stands. This temporary stadium is connected to the water polo venue in the Long Beach Arena by a promenade of shopping and entertainment. The Belmont Plaza Aquatic Center was specifically designed to host the diving event, with careful consideration for security and convenience for all user groups involved in the championships. David Jay Flood Architect played a key role in bringing together both permanent and temporary venues in this competitive bid for the city of Long Beach.
