Long Beach Aquatic Center (Scheme 1)
Long Beach CA

The aquatics center is made up of an outdoor water park, indoor olympic sized pool and health club; and functions as both a venue for community activities and national competitions. the building form is inspired by its location close to the ocean with curved metal roofs connecting the building with the metaphor of waves.
Both indoor spaces and outdoor spaces are designed to cater to a variety of special events. operable doors to the aquatics arena creates an opening for temporary seating during competitions. A retractable roof over the indoor pool and glazed walls enable natural ventilation and light inside. Outside, a sculptural tensile canopy provides shade over the water park.
Color and landscape feature make the complex a inviting place for sports and recreation.
